OTHER EXPRESSION SERVICES
At the Center for Array Technologies, we have run many different types of arrays, from home-made spotted arrays to highly-specialized custom arrays from larger vendors, as well as new array products from emerging companies. There are, however, a number of difficult issues to overcome when attempting to process a new type or highly specialized array. In addition to the increased time requirements, there are issues related to reproducibility of the assay, staffing and equipment costs associated with new techniques, consistent quality of obscure platforms, and extensive data analysis challenges.
We recommend to researchers who are considering new and relatively untested platforms or array types to explore all of their options with more mainstream vendors before making a final decision about their project. The CAT has current processing pipelines in place for most Affymetrix , Agilent , and Illumina array products, and these companies all offer customizable array options to meet the specific needs of many researchers. Of course, the CAT can also work with new and different array types, particularly if a new platform or array application is especially promising, but there may be additional costs associated with processing a project outside of our current support structure.
